Welcome to the Website of the Society for Educational Studies
The Society holds an Annual Conference usually in November. Each conference has a theme and eminent speakers are invited to address it. The last six conferences have been on the following topics:
- 2002: The Future of Educational Studies in a World of Diversity and Change with speakers Madeleine Arnot, Carl Grant, Paul Budge, Stephen Hepple, Jenny Ozga.
- 2003: The Price of Performance: Emerging Evidence from Schools and Universities with speakers Harry Torrance, Pat Mahoney, Martin Ward, Deborah Youdell, Mike Askew, Dennis Hayes, Rajani Naidoo and Michael Peters
- 2004: School Leadership and Social Justice, at which the main speakers were Dr Richard Hatcher, Professor Philip Woods, Professor Helen Gunter, Dr Ruth Lupton, Professor Bob Lingard and Dr Martin Thrupp.
- 2005: 14-19 Agenda: issues and opportunities, with speakers Ken Spores, Richard Pring, Jim Porteous and Karen Evans.
- 2006: Every child matters: a consideration and critique - Challenges for Education, with speakers Pedro A. Noguera, Peter Moss, Kathleen Eggleston, Anne Edwards, Carol Adams, Patrick Roach and Dennis Hayes.
- 2007: Education and the Body, with speakers Mike McNamee and Trevor Marchand.
